Looked After and Adopted Children

Looked after and Adopted children and young people

Young people Looked After and young people transitioning out of the care system are a group of particularly vulnerable young people whose mental health needs are known to be greater than those of the general population.

Often the difficulties of these young people are not accurately understood and consequently there is a lack of timely and appropriate intervention. Providing the right kind of mental health services for these young people can be problematic due to the complex needs they present with and a lack of stability around their care.  The difficulties young people looked after experience accessing universal mental health services is well reported and there is an acknowledged need for a specialist service dedicated solely to the mental health needs of young people looked after.

Psychological assessment and intervention services can be accessed via the Adoption Support Fund.  Great Oaks Psychology is a registered provider for the Adoption Support Fund.
